Super Duper

I recently was commissioned to doodle a woman's three children, which is going really well and proving to be very fun! It made me think I should doodle my own kid. So here is my little dude surrounded by things that make him, him. Which is to say...cool! He still loves to dress up in costumes (even the ones that don't quite fit), he loves to read comics (gets that from me), he draws space battles and super heroes (again just like me...I'm seeing a pattern), and he loves his pets. Enjoy!

What? Star Wars Doodles! No Way!

So all these years I've read, watched, debated, even re-enacted Star Wars (usually with Legos and action figures and my son) I finally decided to take the next logical step...Doodling! Yep Doodles of Star Wars characters! I thought what would be cuter than a sad Yoda holding the Skywalker twins or Chewie screaming at a mouse droid, and my answer of course...THESE!

These were drawn with pencil then colored with markers and ink. As always please no copying or borrowing any image without my permission ©2009. Thanks (:

out of town

Sorry I haven't posted new artwork. This week I had to make an unplanned and very necessary trip to Ohio for the funeral of my dear aunt, she passed suddenly on Friday. She has battled with diabetes her entire life and was only 55 years old. My cousin and I grew up as close as sisters so there was no place else I'd rather be then here to support her.

I have brought my sketch book and have been doodling (it's very cathartic) as soon as I get home and back to my scanner I will post new work.

Thanks for the support (visible or not, it is much appreciated!)

The process...

I'm very interested in how others create their final artwork. Do they start with little doodles and walk through many stages? or does it just happen on final paper? So I wanted to show my process for completing a project. I'm using pages from a new children's book idea. I'm hoping to create a "dummy" and submit it to some publishers soon. Have a look!

First I layout a storyboard. Usually it's full of very rough doodles to get the idea of what will be on each page.

Then I move on to large thumbnails, I like 4x4 inch squares or 3x5 inch rectangles depending on the layout of the final work.

I then take those thumbs and create the final sketch in actual size. I like working 1:1 ratio on most projects. These pages are 8x8 inches.

I'll post the next stages as soon as I get them inked and colored.
If you'd like to share your process send me a link, I'd love to see others art in motion!

From a galaxy far far away...

I know he looks very sad, that is why I'm going to draw him a bunch of friends!
I have always wanted to doodle Star Wars characters, since it is my favorite series of books, Legos, action figures, movies, comic books, costumes, breakfast cereal....etc. So I finally sketched a few pages of mini (2.5x3.5 inch) doodles. I'll share them as I finish their coloring process and my uncontrolled giggling.
This little Yoda was a quick doodle in pencil then inked and colored with my new Prismacolor Markers. He is 3.5x3.5 and will soon be framed and hung on the wall of my living room! Enjoy his awesome Jedi skill of being cute and sad at once!

25 Random Things

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

(I'm breaking the rules...I'm just posting and not tagging. anyone who wants to do it can just say i tagged them!)

1. I like wiener dogs
2. I have a very unhealthy addiction to Star Wars and Star Trek and love to debate my knowledge with other nerds and geeks
3. I'm writing a couple sci-fi novels (one is mostly finished the other is very rough)
4. I plan on writing a book about my gramma Seashols...she is an unbelievable person who has lived through some crazy things
5. My grandpa Seashols spent 3 years in prison camp (refer to #4)
6. I've seen two people die. One was shot in a drug deal, one was an accidental waterfall accident
7. My little sister died a few months before I turned 7. I don't celebrate Valentines Day because of her death.
8. I am a dog person but I love kitties...but not the way you'd think. If I know you have a cat I have to find it and force it to like me no matter what the cat wants. I believe cats were put here so I could torture them.
9. My son wants to be a film maker when he grows up (I secretly hope he does so I can be an extra in his movies!)
10. I married my high school boyfriend. I'm glad I never had to do the "single thing".
11. I like color in my house, you'll never catch me with white walls.
12. I love to read sci-fi and fantasy. I don't read books about things that could actually happen to me, so if it has spaceships, dragons, aliens or wizards...I'll read it!
13. I have a huge collection of children's books. I saved a bunch from my childhood and keep adding to my pile.
14. I love to build Lego sets. We have almost all the Star Wars sets (they are for my son but I think I like them more)
15. I could eat American Chinese food every day. I want to go to China to eat the "real" stuff...hope it doesn't ruin my love of the buffet?
16. We lived in Hawaii for a year...I really didn't like "paradise" it was just too hot and sooooo very far away.
17. I prefer being cold rather than hot. I'm not into the summer living thing. I would rather enjoy a brisk fall day or a cool spring morning.
18. If I could pick any job I'd do set design for Robot Chicken or any Tim Burton production. It's like getting paid to play with toys!
19. I knit and crochet with out patterns because I like to make it up as I go along. Sucks when someone wants my pattern...
20. I would love to have a room in my house just for stuffed animals.
21. My favorite animals are all the black and white ones. Pandas, skunks, zebras...etc I have cried like a baby every time I've seen Pandas in real life. I don't know why but they are so cute they make me cry.
22. I love being an artist but when I was younger I wanted to be an archaeologist, cosmologist or geologist
23. I wrote, illustrated and published a children's book last year.
24…is my favorite number, I was able to choose March 24th as my son’s birthday.
25. I taught vacation bible school in high school...but now I am an atheist...ain't life just full of change!
